On Sunday, July 3, Brooke Joyce and Kathy Reed shared Good Shepherd’s grand piano to play a special Independence Day Concert after the weekly worship service. A transcription of Antonin Dvorak’s Quartet no, 12, “American,” op. 96 started the program followed by the 1770 hymn, Chester, by William Billings (an audience participation hymn). A transcription of the 1812 Overture, composed by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky, was played next (without cannons and carillon). The final number played was The Stars and Strips Forever by John Philip Sousa. Joyce is the Music Director at Good Shepherd. Both Joyce and Reed are members of the Department of Music faculty at Luther College.
