Celebration of Life for Marvin Klocke, Saturday, March 24, 2018

A Celebration of the Life of Marv Klocke will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Decorah, with Pastor Amy Larson officiating.  Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah, at a later date, with Full Military Honors by Decorah’s Veterans and Military Organizations, and U.S. Army personnel.

Adult Forum, Sunday, March 18 – “The Historical Background of the Nicene Creed”

Congregation member Marv Slind’s Adult Forum presentation will be on “The Historical Background of the Nicene Creed.” Using PowerPoint, he will explain why and how the creed was created, as well as some of its effects. His interest in the topic came from his experience teaching courses covering Roman and medieval history, both at Luther College and at Washington State University.

 

Wednesday, March 14 – Lenten Events and Worship

GOOD SHEPHERD’S LENTEN EVENTS AND WORSHIP – WEDNESDAY, MARCH 14:

NOONTIME RECITALSThe second performance in the Lenten Recital Series takes place on March 14. Held in the sanctuary, the recital lasts approximately 30 minutes and is open to the public at no charge. Attendees are welcome to bring lunches; coffee and light desserts will be served in the Fellowship Hall following the performance.

RECITAL, 12:15 p.m. – 

Good Shepherd and Luther College faculty members, Jonathon Struve, baritone, and Brooke Joyce, piano, will present a selection of art songs including Gesänge des Harfners, by Franz Schubert with texts from Goethe’s Wilhelm Meister, and Three Divine Hymns, arrangements of Henry Purcell’s music by Benjamin Britten with texts by William Fuller and Nathaniel Ingelo. Struve is an instructor of voice and Paideia. Joyce, associate professor and Composer-in-Residence, teaches theory, ear training, composition, and electronic music. He serves as the congregation’s Music Director.

WORSHIP, 5:30 p.m. DRY BONESFrom Pastor Amy: When our hope feels brittle and fragile, resurrection comes like the spring; the waters of baptism bring new life. The service begins with the liturgy for Evening Prayer from ELW. Theresa Novak’s poem, “Dry Bones – Images from Ezekiel 37”, will be read by Kathryn Thompson and Kristen Underwood and interpreted by dancer Madi Bauer, a Luther College junior.
