POST CARD WRITING EVENT CHALLENGING THE INHUMANE PRACTICE OF FAMILY SEPARATION AT THE BORDER – SUNDAY, JUNE 3, 10:30 AM, GOOD SHEPHERD FELLOWSHIP HALL
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.”
As many of you know, the United State government has instituted a policy of separating children from their parents as they cross our Southern border seeking refuge. Thousands of children, many of whom have already been traumatized by violence in their home countries, are being forcibly removed from their mothers and fathers and placed in detention centers that are very much like prisons. Recently it has been reported that a significant number of these children have suffered abuse while in detention. Furthermore, the government has openly acknowledged that they no longer know the whereabouts of approximately 1,500 children who were in their care. The practice of family separation and its consequences are not only a violation of basic human rights, they also stands in direct contradiction to the teachings of Jesus. This Sunday, June 3rd, please come and spend a few minutes writing messages to let our senators and representative letting them know that you denounce the administration’s policy of family separation. The Social Justice Sub-Committee will provide all the supplies – all that is needed is your voice.
