Decorating the Christmas Tree

IMG_2394

This Advent, a new tradition was begun at Good Shepherd with the decorating of the Christmas tree for the sanctuary. No tree was present on the first Sunday in Advent.  On the second Sunday in Advent a tree had been set up but not decorated.  By the third Sunday, lights had been added.  After the service, the Sunday School children and several adults hung ornaments.  The fully decorated tree will be in place throughout the remainder of the Christmas season.

Path to Citizenship 2015 Annual Newsletter

The Good Shepherd congregation has supported this organization since it was founded.   A brief summary from their newsletter describing this organization is quoted below.

PATH TO CITIZENSHIP is a northeast Iowa organization whose mission is to aid people who need help navigating the complicated path to legal status. Founded by a coalition of Decorah area faith groups and working in partnership with Justice for Our Neighbors (JFON), a national ministry of the United Methodist Church, Path to Citizenship provides free legal advice on the immigration process. With the help of JFON immigration attorneys, we hold quarterly legal aid clinics and have nointerest microloans available to assist low income families with legal fees and associated costs.
